Fuji S6000 or DSLR?

I finally found a good review of Fuji S6000. It is a nice looking DSLR-like camera with more than 10x optical zoom. One of the most interesting features on this camera is a manual focus ring on the lens.
I am very tempted to buy it. However, I think I should buy a real DSLR camera to improve my photography skills.
Right know my best two choices are Nikon D50 and Pentax K100D.

Last night I managed to read nearly 20 pages for my exam. It is not enough. I should also write a short essay in next few days. It is already late.
